Questions about our 4 season sleeping bag

How do I create an appropriate sleeping environment for my child in summer?

Many parents know: the supine position is the safest sleeping position for your baby, as he can breathe best on his back. Babies do not need a pillow for the first twelve months, and the rule of thumb is: less is more. A blanket is not advisable, especially on warm nights, as it can cause heat buildup.
In the nursery, the temperature for babies should ideally average 17 to 20 degrees and babies should not be wrapped up too thickly, especially in summer. Since babies also move and develop their motor skills during sleep, they often kick and can also sweat as a result.
To check your baby's body temperature, you can touch the back of his or her neck. If your baby's neck is damp, he or she is dressed too warmly. To ensure that your baby does not wake up due to sweating on warm days, you can use a baby summer sleeping bag. Sleeping bags are a safe alternative to baby blankets in the nursery because they circulate air well and keep your baby in the right position.
In a sleeping bag, it is very unlikely that your baby can turn to the dangerous prone position. Sleeping bags are designed to provide enough room for your baby to roam but restrict movement somewhat so that the baby can't turn.
A thin summer sleeping bag for a baby gives an additional feeling of security and the baby feels well protected and snugly wrapped up at night. Blankets in the baby's bed can slip and be pulled down more often during the night. This can cause the baby to get cold and catch a chill. In the worst case scenario, the blanket could even be pulled over the baby's head, creating potential hazards from over covering and heat buildup.
Since babies can't regulate their own body temperature very well yet, it's extremely important to pay attention to the breathability and moisture management of fabrics when choosing materials. We at Zizzz have therefore chosen organic cotton for our baby summer sleeping bags. This is the purest fabric for babies to sleep with as no pesticides are used. It keeps you baby safe and comfortable.

Why is the sleeping environment so important for a baby?

Sleep is especially important for a baby's mental and physical development. Babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months typically sleep 1 to 5 hours at a time and need up to 14 hours of sleep each day. Every child has a different sleep schedule and as parents, it is our job to provide an appropriate sleep environment for our charges.
Excessive sweating can cause a baby to wake up more frequently during the night, and sleep stages are interrupted more often. If a baby does not get enough sleep, its immune system can be weakened, and it is more easily exposed to illness. In addition, the next day, he or she is unrested and grumpy.  Babies go through more sleep stages than adults and are awake more often due to basic needs such as hunger, cold and full diapers.A baby sleeping bags with organic cotton that doesn't cause allergies and wool to regulate his temperature will help your baby sleep more comfortably and help him in his development.

How many baby sleeping bags do I need?

For simplicity, we recommend having two 4-season sleeping bags. Accidents happen, especially when it comes to babies. That's why it's handy to have a second baby sleeping bag in case one gets dirty and needs to go into the washing machine.
While our 4-season baby sleeping bags are machine washable, they cannot be dried in the dryer due to their Swisswool filling. As a result, cleaning your baby sleeping bag may take a while. If you have to wash your baby sleeping bag in the evening or late afternoon, it probably won't be ready in time for your baby's bedtime.
However, a summer sleeping bag should do the trick. Since these are made of a layer of soft organic cotton, they are easy to wash and can go in the dryer.

What should my child wear inside his Zizzz baby sleeping bag?

We advise parents to dress their baby in pajamas made of natural, breathable materials. During particularly cold periods, put an extra layer on your baby. In this infographic, you will find advice for how to dress your baby with different room temperatures

What is the ideal temperature for my baby's room?

The ideal temperature for a baby’s room lies between 17º and 22ºC. You can read more about this here and here on our blog.

Can the baby sleeping bag be cleaned in the washing machine?

Swisswool is an environmentally friendly material made from virgin sheep's wool. It is machine washable thanks to a patented process. It has the advantages of natural wool fiber while being easy to care for.

Can I use your baby sleeping bag all year round?

Yes. Our bags are designed to be used year-round in houses with temperatures between 16° and 22 °C.  On hot summer days, they might be too warm. You will probably not sleep with a duvet yourself. In that case, your baby can use a summer bag or just a pajama

Why does our baby sleeping bag offer such high comfort?

The certified organic cotton is soft and comfortable, the lining made of Swisswool keeps your baby warm, but not too warm. Both natural fabrics are air-permeable, so you will never discover a sweat-covered baby when you take the sleeping bag off him. These toxin-free and hypoallergenic fabrics will not irritate even the most sensitive skin. The cotton is not dyed to leave it as pure as possible. Organic cotton is also better for children with allergies and sensitive skin.
Our sleeping bag does not have a scratchy label at the neck; it has a chin guard and the long zippers mentioned above. The four buttons on the collar allow you to precisely adjust the neck opening.

When I put my baby to bed, should I use a blanket or a baby sleeping bag?

We recommend that you use a baby sleeping bag. It is the safest and most comfortable way for a baby to sleep.

It is the most comfortable way, as babies can’t kick off a sleeping bag, so there is no risk of them uncovering themselves and waking up from the cold. It is the safest way because babies cannot suffocate in a baby sleeping bag; unlike a blanket, a correctly-sized bag will never smother the baby. In addition, the repeated use of our baby sleeping bag provides your baby with a recognizable sleep environment, which has a relaxing effect. This feeling of familiarity will, in turn, help them establish a sleeping routine, even when they are not in their own bed.

We recommend our blankets for other uses. You can use one keep your baby warm when you are carrying them or when you take them for a walk in a buggy.

Why our baby sleeping bag provides more safety for your baby?

Firstly, the baby sleeping bag eliminates the risk of suffocation from blankets. Secondly, the sleeping bag ensures that the baby will not get cold at night, because he can't strip the sleeping bag. Your baby can wave his free arms all he wants, but the temperature regulating properties of our Swisswool filling will keep his body temperature optimal. These toxin-free and hypoallergenic organic cotton will not irritate even the most sensitive skin. The cotton is not dyed to leave it as pure as possible. Organic cotton is also better for children with allergies and sensitive skin.

What materials are used to make our sleeping bag?

Our baby sleeping bag is made only from natural, high-quality materials. Our 100% certified organic cotton outer fabric and our Swisswool wool lining provide comfort and ensure optimal sleep. These toxin-free and hypoallergenic fabrics will not irritate even the most sensitive skin. The cotton is not dyed to leave it as pure as possible. Organic cotton is also better for children with allergies and sensitive skin.

What to consider when buying a summer sleeping bag?

When buying a summer sleeping bag for children, the material is of particular importance. Parents should make sure that the sleeping bag is made of high-quality, breathable materials. High moisture absorption is also important here, so that your child feels pleasantly warm and dry throughout the night.
Purely natural materials are best for summer sleeping bags, as cotton is known for its high breathability and absorption of moisture. The material should also be very soft, so that it feels particularly delicate on sensitive children's skin and gives a feeling of security.

Can I use a Zizzz baby sleeping bag for a baby with allergies or eczema?

Absolutely! At Zizzz, we only use natural materials: Swisswool and organic cotton, both of which are hypoallergenic.  Skin allergies are often linked to chemical and toxic residues in fabrics. The wool filling in our sleeping bags comes from sheep raised in the Swiss Alps. No pesticides are used on our sheep. The inner lining of our baby sleeping bags is made from organic cotton, which we use to ensure that there is no chance that pesticides come into contact with your baby.

Up to what age should my baby sleep in the baby sleeping bag?

There is no set age at which you should stop using the baby sleeping bag. It all depends on your child's preferences. Many children like to sleep with their sleeping bag until they are 6 years old, while others feel constricted at some point and sleep better with a comforter. Just try it out!
Anyway, there are two factors you should take into consideration when you stop using a baby sleeping bag, your child's age and the time of year. Infants who learn to sleep with a blanket often have to get used to it and then they often get cold. That is why it is recommended that children sleep with a baby sleeping bag until they are at least two years old.
This is also why the time of year when you stop using the baby sleeping bag is important. Since children often kick the baby sleeping bag away at night, it is best to switch to a blanket in the summer.

What is the difference between Zizzz sleeping bags with wool filling and merino sleeping bags?

Merino has the same characteristics as wool. Most merino sleeping bags however only have a very thin inside merino lining. The outside is made with thick knitted cotton. A Zizzz sleeping bag has an inside and outside lining of soft organic cotton. In between this is the breathable Swisswool fiber padding with its unique moisture wicking quality. It is about 1.5 cm thick and with a very light, airy structure. It is very comfortable for a baby to lay on.

What is the TOG value of a Zizzz baby sleeping bag?

The textile industry uses TOG values as an indicator of a product’s insulation power. You’ll often see TOG values listed on baby sleeping bags made of polyester. We don’t believe it’s very useful since our products are breathable and help to regulate your baby’s body temperature naturally.

However, if you twist our arm, our TOG value is roughly 2.5.

Do I have to wash a Zizzz baby sleeping bags before first use?

No, it is not necessary, as we only use organic cotton that was grown without pesticides. Also, the wool is free of any harmful substances. The fabrics have been washed during the production.

Why is our baby sleeping bag so user-friendly?

Our buttons and zippers make the sleeping bag easy to put on. Our sleeping bag has long zippers, so you can change diapers without taking off your baby's sleeping bag. Thanks to an opening on the back of models for babies from six months, the sleeping bag can be worn in the stroller or car seat without waking the little one.

Should I buy a baby sleeping bag with or without sleeves?

The temperature-regulating Swisswool filling in our baby sleeping bags is designed to keep your child at ideal body temperature in all but the warmest weeks of summer. The body heat is evenly distributed over the little baby's body in the baby sleeping bag. In cold weather, you can cover your baby with an extra layer. We carry pajamas and bodysuits made of delicate organic cotton for this purpose.
If we were to add sleeves to our baby sleeping bags, your child would be too warm as the air would not be able to circulate well. Research also suggests that overheating is a cause of SIDS.
How you should dress your baby for bedtime admittedly depends on the temperature. The ideal temperature for your baby's room is between 16 and 20 degrees.
Our baby and infant bags rank around 2.5 on the TOG scale.

What is the difference between Zizzz 4 seasons and summer sleeping bags?

Zizzz 4 seasons sleeping bags are designed to be used throughout the year. They are made with an organic cotton outer and inner lining and have a breathable wool filling in between. It provides insulation and regulates temperature effectively. These sleeping bags are designed to keep your child warm during colder nights and cool during warmer nights.

Our summer sleeping bags are just made with one layer of soft organic cotton and are specifically designed for use during the warmer months. They are soft, lightweight and hypoallergenic

Which baby sleeping bag do I need for winter?

Of course, a baby sleeping bag for winter should keep your child warm. But at the same time it should be breathable, otherwise under the sleeping bag will accumulate heat emitted from the body and sweat.
We believe that a baby sleeping bag made of organic cotton and virgin wool is the right choice, which is why we make our sleeping bags from these fabrics. As everyone knows, cotton is known for its excellent breathability and is valued in the textile industry for it. The GOTS certified organic cotton used for our baby sleeping bags feels pleasantly soft on the skin and is grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers - substances that you don't want your child to come into contact with, of course.
Sheep's wool, which man has used for thousands of years, is perfect for baby sleeping bags for the winter. Wool regulates body temperature by wicking heat and moisture away from the wearer. So a baby sleeping bag for winter made of pure new sheep's wool will keep your baby comfortably warm, but not too warm. Parents whose children are using our baby sleeping bags for the first time are pleased to find that their children do not wake up the next morning drenched in sweat.
Other manufacturers make their baby sleeping bags from polyester or down. We consider these materials unsuitable for use by children. Polyester keeps the user very warm, but it is not breathable. As a result, your baby's body heat will remain trapped between him and the sleeping bag, which in turn will cause sweating, which will also remain trapped under the sleeping bag. As it says above, polyester is a plastic form. Garments made of polyester are harmful to the environment, and their use is also associated with an increasing number of diseases.
Down is an excellent insulator; it is also breathable and a natural material. Nevertheless, we believe that they generally insulate too well to be used for babies. Babies cannot yet regulate their body temperature and are therefore more likely to overheat than children or adults. As we mentioned earlier, overheating is considered a cause of sudden infant death syndrome. While children's bodies can regulate their temperature better than infants', children also overheat or freeze much more easily than adults. For this reason, our children's comforters are made only with Swisswool; only for adults we offer only down comforters.

Until what age can a baby/child sleep in a baby sleeping bag?

Our baby sleeping bags come in four different sizes. Our largest sleeping bag is for children from 4 to 6 years; the smallest size is for the period of 0 to 6 months. During their first six months, babies grow very quickly, which is why the use period of our smallest model is relatively short. Our second size is for 6 to 24-month-old babies. The third size is from 24-48 months

How many baby sleeping bags do you recommend?

It is best to have two baby sleeping bags. This way you always have a back-up when one is in the washing machine.

Why the sleeping bag promotes deep and restful sleep?

Babies quickly associate the sleeping bag with comfortable sleep. This mental association can help them fall asleep faster and feel comfortable in unfamiliar environments and situations. Regular use of the sleeping bag helps establish a sleep routine. Certain studies show that in premature and underweight babies, good sleep habits are associated with faster growth.

Why don’t your baby sleeping bags have sleeves?

Our bags don’t have sleeves to make sure enough air can circulate and to avoid overheating, which can be a cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). If babies sleep under a blanket, they will normally keep their arms uncovered, just like we do. We recommend layering garments to adapt your baby to their room’s temperature. The best way to see if they are warm is to put your hand on their chest or behind their neck. Babies’ hands can feel a bit cold because of poor circulation in the first 12 months. Don’t worry! This is normal.

What are advantages of Zizzz sleeping bag with wool filling compared to baby sleeping bag with normal synthetic filling?

Zizzz sleeping bags with wool filling have several advantages over baby sleeping bags with synthetic filling:
1. Natural Material: Wool is a natural material that is renewable, sustainable and biodegradable. It is a safer and healthier option for babies as it is free of harmful chemicals found in synthetic materials.
2. Temperature Regulation: Wool has natural temperature regulating properties, which means that it can keep your baby warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather. This is because wool fibers can absorb moisture and release it into the air, helping to regulate body temperature and prevent overheating.
3. Moisture Management: Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, which means that it can help to keep your baby dry and comfortable, even if they sweat during the night.
4. Durability: Wool is a durable material that can withstand the wear and tear of regular use. It is also naturally resistant to odors and stains, which means that it requires less washing and maintenance compared to synthetic materials.
Overall, Zizzz sleeping bags with wool filling offer several advantages over baby sleeping bags with synthetic filling, including natural material, temperature regulation, moisture management, comfort and durability.
